The "Junto à Terra" (JaT) project in the Tua Valley has become part of a new pilot programme aimed at younger students called ‘Semear + Cedo’ (Sow Earlier), promoted by the Tua Valley Regional Natural Park (PNVT), in partnership with Palombar, among other entities, whose first activities took place in November 2025. The goal of Junto à Terra – Tua: “Semear + Cedo” is to create a stronger connection between young people and the nature and landscape of the park, promoting its appreciation and conservation.

Originally focused on a youth audience, JaT now includes younger students, children in the 4th year of schooling from school groups in the municipalities covered by the project in the PNRVT.

On 21, 24 and 25 November 2025, Palombar organised a series of activities as part of Junto à Terra – Tua: “Semear + Cedo”, involving a total of 378 students and focusing on the native forest, a theme that runs throughout the programme.

Workshop ‘Life in the Oak Tree: Webs that Feed’

With various types and theoretical and practical dynamics, the workshop ‘Life in the Oak Tree: Webs that Feed’ was the main activity, where students were able to immerse themselves in the universe hidden under the canopy of an oak tree, a living symbol of the forest.

During this workshop, we explored the invisible connections that exist between the living beings that inhabit, visit or depend on this tree, from moss to wolves, from acorns to jays.

We discovered how each life is intertwined in an essential food web, revealing the role of the oak tree as a pillar of biodiversity. This was an experience that sparked the curiosity of the youngest visitors and celebrated the interdependence and vital importance of forest life for all of us.

About "Junto à Terra"

"Junto à Terra" is an environmental education project aimed at the school community that arose from the strategy defined by EDP - Energias de Portugal to mitigate the impact on biodiversity resulting from the hydroelectric developments of Baixo Sabor and Foz Tua. It is intended as a tool for involving the local community, capable of bringing society and human activity into the equation of nature and biodiversity conservation. It is implemented through two central initiatives: Jat Sabor and Jat Tua. Palombar has been a partner in the practical component of JaT since the project began in 2016.
