Palombar - Nature and Rural Heritage Conservation was a partner in enforcing the actions of the 'Emergency Plan for the Recovery of Three Rupicolous Birds Species in the Douro Internacional Natural Park' (PEAR), completed between September 2007 and August 2009 and funded by EDP - Portuguese electric utilities company.
This project, a result of a Business and Biodiversity initiative, had the general objective of reversing the decline of three species of rupicolous birds in the Natural Park of the Douro Internacional (PNDI): black stork (Ciconia nigra), Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus) and Bonelli's eagle (Aquila fasciata).
The specific objectives of the plan were: improve the feeding habitat conditions of those rupicolous birds; increase the productivity of its populations; reduce the incidence of mortality and disturbance factors associated with human activities, related to production infrastructures, transport and distribution of electricity; increase knowledge about the areas of food and dispersion of the species concerned and improve the image of the target species to the local population.
The Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests - ICNF was responsible for the technical monitoring of the plan's actions.
